About the Artist
Diane Dean is a North Carolina artist whose work is rooted in texture, layers, and the marks left by natural forces. Working in both painting and clay, she is drawn to surfaces shaped by erosion, weather, geological formations, and the passage of time.
Her paintings are built through layers of color, scraping, gestural marks, and heavily worked surfaces. More recently, that lifelong fascination with texture has found a three-dimensional expression in ceramics through Strata Clay Works, where carved and fractured surfaces, organic forms, and unpredictable glaze interactions become part of the work.
Across both mediums, Diane embraces the tension between intention and discovery—allowing the process and materials to help determine what each piece ultimately becomes.
